Trimless Channel Letters
Trimless channel letters are a modern spin on LED signage, with its sleek design that can be used to show off your business and branding, as well as attract customers. They are built with no trim caps, allowing for the front and/or back white or clear acrylic to show past the raceway edge. The faces can be attached using either mechanical fasteners, or epoxy chemical adhesive, depending on the size, and if it is being utilized outside or inside. Because they don’t have the additional stability that trim caps provide, it is recommended that trimless signage be used in a location that is more protected outside, or for interior use, like casinos, malls, airports, and other various venues. Trimless products can be built in a variety of different ways, depending on where it is being installed, and where the components need to be accessed (from the front or back).
Some of the variations for this product include front, back, and double trimless (front and back). In most cases, the hat sits flush with the edge of return, however, trimless channel letters can also be built to extend past the edge of the return, like the sample below, or sit flat inside the can, so it does not extend at all.
Best use for Trimless
While Trimless channel letters and signage can be used for outdoor use, the unique flare of the trimless edged glow, whether it be on the front, back, or both, creates a visual appeal that is most appreciated up close. Depending on the thickness of the acrylic, which can be done in 1/4″ (with a 1/8″ visible edge/hat), or a 1/2″ (with an 3/8″ visible edge/hat), each providing a smooth-edged look. Other options include adding vinyl, diffusers, or digital prints, as well as custom painting of the outside return.

Trimless Channel Letters Offerings
Trimless products use special returns that are built with an internal extruded lip for the face and base, allowing the acrylic face to sit inside the top shoulder of the return, and the hat, or trim then extends past the returns edge.
Trimless faces and backs can be built using a 1/4″ or 1/2″ white or clear plex, depending on the amount of seam needed to extend from the edge of the raceway. Colored vinyl can be added to the back to create a colored look and glow to the acrylic.
We utilize 3M 3630 vinyl for it’s high quality and consistency, available in several colors. We also can provide high quality 3M digital prints.
Backer plates are routed and contoured based on electronic file to ensure accuracy and integrity with a mounting pattern, and can be custom painted. All jobs come with 1/4″ 20 zinc coated threaded rod and rivnuts.
We can produce high-quality custom painted raceways, extruded raceways, and wireways of various sizes, that also work well with backplates and logos.
Standoffs are usually between 1/2 – 2″, but can be customized, as well as can be painted to match façade and provide a finished product housing for threaded rods.
Trimless products, due to the build and smaller return depth, use Mini Principal Mods instead of regular size LEDs. These work better for the lighting effect needed with the trimless acrylic overhang.
We are U.L. 48 Certified. All signage and material are built to this set of regulations. In certain areas local and NEC codes may supersede U.L. and we will need to be notified of those differences.
Most fonts can be produced by DSW, but please note that some fonts, including script and fonts with serifs, may need to be adjusted due to smaller stroke widths and sharper angles.
Minimum sizes of 6″ for block fonts and 8″ for script or fonts with serifs. Due to shipping constraints and the integrity of the product, we can only do a single letter or logo up to 6′ in height.
DSW can color match and paint with most major brands including Matthews, Pantone, Benjamin Moore, and Sherwin Williams, as well as build other sign customizations.
This product can be produced as non-illuminated, for customers who want to provide their own LEDs and electrical components. Please specify when ordering.
